Megan Wright to chase 5,000 m Olympic Games qualifying standard this Friday at UBC Pre-JeromePublished by
Megan Wright (née Metcalfe), a 2008 Beijing Olympic Games 5,000 m finalist, will pursue her quest for a 2012 London Olympic Games qualifying standard in the 5,000 m at the UBC Pre-Jerome on Friday evening.
She'll be looking to dip under 15 minutes 20 seconds, which is the Olympic 'A' Qualifying Standard set by Athletics Canada. Her personal best at 5,000 is 15:11.23, set at the 2008 Games.
Originally from Edmonton, Alberta, Wright currently lives in Morgantown, West Virginia, home of West Virginia University. At WVU she won the NCAA 5,000 m title in 2005 and was a nine-time All-American. She continues to train under WVU coach Sean Cleary, and works part-time as a physiotherapist.
The 5,000 m men and women's mixed race is scheduled for 8:45 pm.
The UBC Pre-Jerome takes place Friday, June 8, at the Rashpal Dhillon UBC Track & Field Oval. Events start at 5:55 pm. There will be a concession and beverage garden at the track.
