It was a stellar weekend for Speed River athletes at the Canadian Junior Track and Field Championships, the club brought home four medals and a fourth place finish and qualified two athletes for the Pan American Junior Track and Field Championships in Miramar, Florida. Leading the way was Emily Driedger who captured the silver in the women's 2000 metre steeplechase in 7 minutes 3.64 seconds and the bronze in the women's 3000 metres in 10 minutes 6.42 seconds. As a result of her finish in the 3000 metres and her strong showings earlier in the season Driedger was named to the Pan Am team in the 5000 metres. Teammate Carise Thompson will also be representing Canada in the 5000 after placing second in the 3000 metres in a time of 10 minutes 0.69 seconds.
