It was a tough week. Graham could be in that 25-30 range but so could a handful of others.

@Mike the girls are extremely deep. For example, look at #25 and #26. Belf is the US junior 5k champion in track with 4:45 speed. She has won a ton of XC meets this year and finished second in the NXN midwest regionals. Marissa Williams just set the 8th fastest time ever at Mt. Sac, arguably one of the most traversed courses in high school cross country and set the Pierce course record on her way to her third straight Los Angeles city section title. Note these ranking came out before the SS finals. Ortega is likely to fall out after losing to Graves and Gore. There are so many talented girls this year. I think Doug would agree that the top 40 or so girls are separated by maybe 15 seconds or so. Graham is great but so are others.

Lindsay Graham runs 16:23 at the Illinois State meet, the fifth fastest time ever on that course, and she is on the bubble? Wow.

Thanks Hayward. It looks like we need to re-post those 5A results. The ones we got didn't score CV. I'll fix that today.
It's hard to fault Maton for wanting to go back to Foot Locker and take another crack at Fisher and try to better, and try to be the first to win it from Oregon.
Along the same vein ... it's also interesting that Camas might reach NXN without the best runner in that school as well :)

I can't fault Maton's competitiveness and desire to take another shot at Fisher and others. I do hope he becomes the first Oregonian to pull off a footlocker win. It is a real testament to the strength of the program's at Summit and Camas that they will be in the mix for NXN spots without Efraimson and Maton. Looking forward to seeing how everyone performs on Saturday.

This was an interesting article. Thank you for writing it. While I still don't completely understand the marginal benefit of footlocker over running with your team at NXN, I'm glad to hear that this was known for some time. At the end of the day if everyone actually involved in the situation is fine with it that's all that really matters. It's too bad that athletes can't do both. Tanner Anderson seems to be every bit the runner as anyone competing at Footlocker. As a fan I'd love to see Anderson and Maton (and anyone else from the West) have the opportunity to do both races if they wanted to, particularly for those athletes on national level teams.

One small note, Justin Lamer from Crescent Valley was on a team and finished second in the 5A race, so I believe Summit had 19 points.

Whoa. Runfan46 and hedyd4u. I have to admit, I did NOT see that result from the 21st at the sectional meet. If I had, I would have bumped Mikey back to the bubble list if not altogether. I was willing to give him one mulligan, but not two. I still think he's going to get it together this Friday ... but time will tell. You guys were right to call that one out. I missed it.

What about Paul Power from PA for on the bubble? Kevin James but no Paul Power?

Doug,
It's a difficult job you have for sure. However, I would encourage you to dig a bit deeper. Your statement is inaccurate. Please see results for Section XI Divisional races.

I disagree that Mikey doesn't deserve to be in the rankings. He's not hurt. I communicated with him just today. He'll run in his section championships next Friday. He's just been training. I agree that it is a little awkward and I've been sliding more deserving runners ahead of him while he's been on the sideline. I don't think there's any reason why he should vanish from the list. Shookdown -- he has run once so far, a rust-buster at the Shore Coaches.

has Brannigan run yet this season?
hedyd4u
How does Mike Brannigan make this list? What did he run this season to support 16th? Is this a list based on past success or where they should be? Talented runner yes but does not deserve to be on this list based on what he ran this cross country season, please this makes this list seem very subjective with that placing, very bad choice for top 30. Yes he ran great last year all year long he ran great but this list should only be based on this season not last year and what you hope he does. When he runs a great race this year then rank him till then get real!
