Track and field: Mt. Sac Relays - Day One

Two Camarillo High distance runners produced county-leading performances Friday at the Mount San Antonio College Relays in Walnut.

 

Joel Gonzalez was fourth in the boys invitational 1,600 in 4 minutes, 13.72 seconds. It is the fourth-fastest time in the state this year. Ian Roberts of Ventura was 11th in 4:23.82.

 

Bernie Montoya of Cibola, Ariz., set a meet record in the event with a 4:07.72.

 

In the boys invitational 3,200, Camarillo's Adam Lucero was fourth with a county-best 9:14.49. Danny Montoya of St. John Bosco had a meet-record time of 9:02.20.

 

Jake David of Ventura won the boys open pole vault at 14 feet. Teammate Devon Walker was third in the boys open discus at 155-9.

 

Katherine Reaves of Thousand Oaks placed fifth in the girls open shot put at 33-8.50. Ventura's Katelynn Homb was eighth at 33-3.25.

 

In the girls open long jump, Marissa Rossi of Calabasas and Ventura's Anisa Patterson finished 1-2 with marks of 17-5.25 and 16-11.5.

 

Ventura was ninth in the girls invitational 4x1,600 relay in 21:28.62. Redondo Union bettered state and meet records with a time of 20:01.38.

 

The two-day meet ends today with area athletes entered in more than four dozen events.

 

State-ranked Rio Mesa and Oaks Christian will go head-to-head in the boys 4x100 and 4x200 relays. County record holder Jazzelena Black competes in the girls invitational triple jump at 7 p.m.
