Still No Answer on What Caused Runner’s DeathPublished by
NEW YORK TIMES The day after Ryan Shay died during the United States Olympic trials for the marathon — a seemingly healthy 28-year-old stricken early in a race he had run many times — his family had no more answers. An autopsy was performed yesterday, but Ellen Borakove, a spokeswoman for the city’s medical examiner, said that results would not be final until perhaps the end of the week, after tests on Shay’s heart tissue samples were complete.
