Poor form in my opinion. You should volunteer for these races out of the respect for the sport, not because you feel like you owe it back to the race that pays you. I have also worked many of these VIP port o potties and have NEVER seen an elite working them. It's typically Brooks folks and volunteers from the accounts in town. I respect the disagreement with competitor but don't EXPECT sympathy. It's that kind of entitlement that has "elite" runners scrapping these days.

Thank you for a well thought out, well written, unique perspective that I have not read from any other elite athlete. As a race director I appreciate not only your talents- but how you did give back to the sport and Competitor group. For all the comps I have given to elite athletes I can count on one hand the amount of times they've come back to volunteer at another race I direct. Good luck at Twin Cities and beyond.
