After every season, HSHammer.com updates our list of unofficial high school hammer throw state records. This year saw 14 new state records, including seven new boys and seven new girls records. Several of the records were also newly created, meaning that the hammer is spreading to new states.

The oldest record to fall this year was in Illinois. Brendan Duncan's throw of 186'05" was just barely enough to eclipse Russ Berry's previous state record of 185'07" set over a century ago in 1911. Many more states threw the hammer in the first few decades of the twentieth century, but those records have been slowelz erased in recent years as the hammer throw keeps growing. The oldest remaining record we have found is from Maine set back in 1929. Maine banned the hammer throw ten years later in 1939. For a complete list of the updated state records, click here.

In addition, HSHammer.com's deep all-time lists for both boys and girls have been updated to include results from 2012.
