Plant High swept the team titles Tuesday at the Vernon Korhn Hillsborough County Track and Field Championships, ending the five-year reign of Wharton's girls and halting a nearly as dominating run by Hillsborough's boys, who had captured three of the last four crowns. As expected of a school that won last fall's Class 4A state cross country meet, Plant's girls scored big in the distance events. Led by junior Scarlett Fox and Kara Halfaker, winners of the 800- and 3,200-meter runs, respectively, the Panthers rolled up 95 points to beat Wharton by 10 and third-place Steinbrenner by 20.
