13 May 2012 - Lily Williams of Chiles High School is the DistancePreps.com 2012 Girls Track Athlete of the Year. 

Lily's 2012 track season will be remembered for a long time to come due to her dominating races, stellar times and most notably for her "Distance Triple" at the 2012 Florida High School Athletic Association's (FHSAA) 3A Outdoor Championships where she garnered State Championships in the 800, 1600, and 3200, immensely helping Chiles secure the 3A Girls Team Runner-up Trophy with 30 points; a truly impressive feat that had not been accomplished since 1982 - a span of 30 years since Trinity Prep's Adrienne Politowicz last accomplished the feat.  Lily became only the 4th Girl in the history of the FHSAA to successfully secure the "Distance Triple".

Lily's Track season got off to an early start in 2012 as Florida's sole distance representative to the prestigious Brooks Indoor PR meet where she finished 9th in an elite national field during the Indoor Mile.

Later on in the outdoor season, Lily was the FSU Relays 3200 Champion (10.30.53) and Florida Relays 1600 Champion (4:47.79) with times that held up at the end of the season as state-leading times.  No one went faster all-season in those highly competitive and deep events.

Lily's race strategy and execution resonated with track fans across the State in 2012.  She was able to make mid-race surges or lead from the front to win in dominating fashion. 

Lily concluded her high school career with 3 team cross-country titles and 7 individual track titles.  Lily will attend Vanderbilt University in the Fall.

Lily was also one of 12 female student-athletes named to the 18th Annual FHSAA Academic All-State Team.

Due to her stellar season, Lily Williams is being recognized as the 2012 DistancePreps.com Girls Track Athlete of the Year.


The DistancePreps.com Girls Track Athlete of the Year Award is presented to a Florida runner in the 800, 1600, and 3200 distance events and is determined by consensus from team members of DistancePreps.com

2012 is the first year for the award.
