Well written, Scott! What a thrilling time to be a fan of the sport with Shalane and all the great and inspirational athletes we have to follow.

Cheryl Treworgy, Shalane's proud mother (and talented lady by many measures in her own right!) wished me to pass along these warm regards to you, Scott.

Kevin, can you please pass on my appreciation to Scott Bush for the insight and history he presented in his reporting of Shalane's race today. By putting her performance in perspective for all of us, we can more clearly appreciate her efforts. His willingness to point out that what drives her can force others to dig deeper too. And I am grateful he was able to do this reminding us that her drive deserves our respect and admiration.

She is my daughter and the criticisms of how she chooses to chase her dream hurt. There are so few who can stand in her shoes, so I guess we should allow them to pretend what they would do. That's where Scott's respectful comments helped me rise above and enjoy the pride we should all feel. Thank you, Scott.

So… What marker does the lady run onto the course? Let's be honest… that's what we're all waiting for.
Kevin
What a fantastic race, a thrill to have the race call and a front row seat!

Pretty sure there are no zooms on drones yet, and if there is, it's probably crappy digital zoom. Very cool, nonetheless.

Really excited to see where Austin Tamagno is at. He looked great in XC last fall!

Arcadia and Even Penn this year are a bit too early for the eastern teams to be near their best..Spring just arrived last week and running in the hall does not allow for working on skills like the 110 hurdles or training for sprint relays. It is too bad that more Texas and Florida high schools do not come north to face the Jamaicans, who are only two weeks past Champs prime. UC ran. 1:27 4 by 200 against good competition. Seems like a score of Texas teams have posted 1:25s...who would win in late May or June...UC or the Texans.? it would be closer than the two second gap.

Agreed on all points. Texas and Florida already starting their state meet series.

That's not the first time that Alexa has gone out hard and alone but probably the first 3200/2 mile where she did that. She looked a little tired on the 7th lap but looked great on the 8th when she put it all together. When I asked her after the race if she was concerned during that 7th lap she just giggled. No idea how to interpret that! If there's no oMary Cain this kid is all anyone would be talking about. She super and has yet another year to go after this one.

Baxter is injured.

UC had two injuries, not serious but not enough to risk it. If you noticed, Animashaun was only 5th in the 110H in 14.47. He's clearly faster than that when 100%.

UC ran 3:14.00 in the trials and 3:16.06 in the finals at Penn last year. We'll see if they are ready to do that again this year and where it puts them.

She took it out hard in her last 3200m as well (Tiger Invite), well at least comparatively speaking... (remember, this being her third event that day) opened in a 71.6 and ran very similar distribution of splits to Arcadia. They were actually what I used (as %'s since she'd be fresh) when I posted on Letsrun some hypothetical splits:

Tiger Invite: 71.6-76.3-77.9-79.1-78.9-79.7-73.5 (10:16.2)
Projected Arcadia: 70-74-76-76-77-77-77-71 (9:58)
Actual Arcadia: 67.6-75.6-74.8-76.3-76.8-79.2-77.7-67.9 (9:55.92)

Can never predict these things, but letting Efraimson go it alone was a good learning experience for her... Overall, Arcadia also showed that some runners from the colder climes in the West are very . Hope the kid from Alaska, Ostrander., gets more races in the lower 48. What is the back story on Baxter? Also why did Union Catholic pull out of the 4x400?
HopeLB Poly girls get it together in time to challenge the Jamaicans at Penn. They still have the best anchor runner.. Do not see any of the U.S. teams who are ready for the island guys. Too early in the season for the northeast teams, even Union Catholic.

They were saying on the Letsrun board that there was a rumor last night that Baxter wasn't 100% and was going to scratch.... I guess they weren't trolling for once?

She scratched last night.

In the boys 3200 meters tonight ... new all-time state bests for:

Idaho ... Andrew Rafla (8:50.55)
Wyoming ... Jonah Henry 9:03.26 for second in the seeded race. (This one is murkier but we think it's a record).

Those are the only ones tonight but kind of a surprising that Rafla got up for second. Great run by him, beating a Dallin Farnsworth record by almost five seconds. And beating Armstrong by about five seconds.

In the girls 3200 meters tonight ... new all-time state bests for:

Washington ... Alexa Efraimson (9:55.92)
Alaska ... Allie Ostrander (10:03.66)
Montana ... Makena Morley (10:16.38)
watchout
crazy anchor by Redondo! Awesome!!

4 teams under 10:10, but none under 10:09. Great race!
watchout
looks like the DMR is going to be between Central Catholic and Dana Hills? That'll be a good anchor showdown!
