First Local Veggie Box Pick-up!
Published by
What the @#$! are we Eating??? First vegetable box pickup! I did it! I signed up with a local farm to pick up my vegetables every Thursday from a drop-site that is actually only about 3 minutes from my house. The farm is Sweetwater Farm and info can be found at goodfoodeasy.com. What prompted this? I've been watching too much TV . . . No, seriously, here's how it went. I read Born to Run by Christopher McDougall. I liked the kind of investigative journalism he employed and I wanted more. So I watched Food Inc. Then I watched Blue Gold: World Water Wars. Then I watched another documentary, and then another, and another, and another. Here's the list: No Impact Man - A New Yorker dedicated to making zero net impact on the world for a year I've learned so much. I've learned that many systems in our country are really quite similar. When you watch documentaries on healthcare, food, credit, government, even wine, you begin to realize that they all talk to each other, that they echo the same sentiments. Many, if not all, of our major systems are profit-driven machines with almost a complete disregard for long-term sustainability or consequences. There are so many little easy things I've done to change how I participate in the system and I feel really good about it. There is a ton of research and computer time that I've put into each of my decisions, and I'd love to talk about them all, but this blog is dedicated to my personal journey in the hopes of discovering a reasonable way of taking control of what I eat. So, in the upcoming articles, I will begin to share some of the things I have learned, I will undoubtedly continue to add to the growing list of documentaries I'm watching and I encourage all of you to watch them as well. They're all available on "instant view" on Netflix. Next up will be my meat pickup! Yeah, I found another CSA that does meat! Barbecue all summer here I come!
