While on the same day Phil McCartney (70.18), Stu Burton (72.25 ) and Jason Effmann(73.03) took 3rd, 4th and 5th at the Foot Traffic Flat Half Marathon.

I know we had a few other BAC runners in this race too. I’d love to keep track of how our runners are doing in the local races and progressing towards their own goals – not just the fast runners at the front, but all our club members. Unfortunately since most races don’t have a spot for the club name on the entry form or results this can be tough to keep track of.

Bret Schoolmeester, Andrew Cook and Stephanie Rothstein were among the thousands of athletes, fans and family in town for the Olympic Trials.

The trio were also among the first — of 5,920 total entrants in the race and walk — to finish Friday’s 34th Butte to Butte 10-kilometer road race.

Schoolmeester, 24, of Portland, crossed the finish line in Skinner Butte Park first in 30 minutes, 6 seconds to set a course record for his age group.

Local and out-of-town runners, as well as fans of the sport, will have more than enough reason to celebrate this Fourth of July. And organizers of the annual Butte to Butte road race and fitness walk expect them to include the holiday event in their festivities.

William Wyckoff, whose Eclectic Edge Events is in its second year organizing the modern-day version scheduled for an 8 a.m. start Friday, expects to break last year’s record of 4,600 participants and is preparing for as many as 10,000, including some of the hundreds of fans, coaches and media in town for the Olympic Trials.
