Haverhill company testing new wireless tracking system for runners, thoroughbreds, and running backs

When Olympic medalist Bernard Lagat set a new American record in Boston earlier this month, he was wearing a prototype wireless tracking tag from Haverhill-basedLynx System Developers Inc.

As Lagat rounded the track at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center in Roxbury, running the 5000 meters in thirteen minutes and eleven seconds, the tag relayed information about his precise position on the track to a Lynx computer system in a control room above the action, which enabled a robotic camera to closely follow Lagat, and provided detailed new information for the ESPN announcers who were calling the race.

Oregon State experimenting with men’s track this weekend; 6 football players heading to Seattle

Sentiment for restoring men’s track at Oregon State has been building for a couple of years, and that process will take a symbolic step on Saturday at the Husky Classic indoor meet in Seattle.

Six members of the Oregon State football team – including All-American James Rodgers – will compete in the meet, representing the Beavers. The men’s track and field program at Oregon State was killed in 1988.

School officials caution this is not the beginning of men’s track at OSU and that once spring football drills start in March all of these players will be fully engaged with the sport that brought them to Corvallis in the first place.

Bolt to start 2010 with 400m race

The 23-year-old world record holder usually starts his season over the longer distance to ease himself from training into racing.

Bolt's last run was in winning the 200m in September's IAAF finals in Greece.

He has also confirmed he will compete over 100m in the Diamond League meeting in New York on 12 June.

It will be Bolt's first competition in the United States since he set his first world record at the same meeting in 2008.

However it has still to be revealed whether the race will be his first of his seven Diamond League appearances.

Galen Rupp turned a strong double Saturday at the UW Invitational in Seattle, but he might not run a scheduled 5,000-meter race this weekend in Boston. 

The first-year pro, who runs for Oregon Track Club Elite/Portland, had cold symptoms Monday. 

Unless he kicks the bug quickly, Rupp won't be tangling with Bernard Lagat in what is expected to be a fast race Saturday at the Reebok Boston Indoor Games.

On the Women's side, 1992/2000 Olympic 10k Gold Medalist, Derartu Tulu, took the win over highly favored and injured, WR holder Paula Radcliffe.

Video from the Men's and Women's PAC 10 Cross Country Championships.  Nichole Blood  (@nikblood) took home the individual title for the Ducks.  The Stanford men and UW women took home the team titles.

Video from the Big 12 Championships, where Jenny Barringer and the Oklahoma State Men's team put on a couple of impressive performances.

Cartman gives us a fantastic rendition of Lady Gaga's "Pokerface" and I can't the song out of my head.
