Sammy Vazquez - Florida Great - 2012 Olympian

Samuel "Sammy V" Vazquez is Florida's all-time fastest prep miler and 6 time State Champion who graduated from Flagler Palm Coast High School in 2003 and Embry-Riddle Daytona Beach in 2011.
In 2012, Sammy will represent Puerto Rico in the Olympic Games.

Darrin Detorres caught up with Sammy shortly after making the Olympic standard at the American Milers Club 1500 where he ran 3:37.60. (VIDEO OF RACE HERE)

Career Highlights

• 2003 Adidas High School Nationals Champion in the mile, in a time of 4:03.87 

• Puerto Rico Olympic National Team 1,500 meter participant at the Central American
and Carribean Championships and 2011 Pan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico.
 
• 2011 NAIA 1000 Meter Indoor Track and Field National Champion 
• Seven-time NAIA All-America Honors
• NCAA All-America Honors, Indoor Distance Medely Relay (University of Arkansas)
• 2003 Adidas Outdoor National Mile Champion
• All-Conference selection from 2008 – 2010
• The Sun Conference Runner of the Year in 2009

Sammy is married to Florencia Vazquez and resides in Chicago, Illinois.
