Mary Ruth Joyner, the only daughter of olympic superstars Al and Florence Griffith Joyner, put America on notice Monday night: she intends to make a sprint for the finish line in the million dollar competition.
Her track star parents have accumulated a half dozen gold medals. But for Mary, 21, the dream has always been music.
“We always taught her about being the best in the world at whatever she decided to choose,” her father revealed in a pre-taped interview. ”We thought it would be running because it was in her DNA. Florence had every talent under the sun. But she couldn’t sing. She said ‘My daughter will sing.’”
Mary was just 7 when her mother passed away in 1998. ”From that moment on, I knew that my mom wasn’t going to be a part of my life anymore,” she said, fighting back tears. ”I miss my mom so much every day. But I know she is watching down on me.” Read More
