Filmed on 1/9/08 - Eugene, Oregon - Vin Lananna, as surprised as any of us, expresses his Craig Masback (photo from usatf.org)disappointment at the news that Craig Masback is moving on from USATF after the Tracktown meeting on January 9th, 2008. Lananna enjoyed a close relationship with his long time friend as the evolution of Eugene's involvement with the USATF blossomed and reminds us of a very good point: that Masback comes from a background in law, and that perhaps the new position at Nike may suit him quite well.

Well said Kevin.  Also, sometimes people just need a change after doing something for 10 years.  I think he accomplished some amazing things for the sport in his time with usatf.

I think Vin's comment that Craig comes from a background in law is so important to remember.  I have spoken with Craig several times, and I once asked him how he came to be CEO of USATF.  He said that the job was a little outside the box for him, but was presented to him nonetheless and seemed to be a unique challenge that he was excited to pursue.  He is a huge fan of the sport and really enjoys being involved and perhaps his new job at Nike will be an even better fit for his skills.  I'm glad that the job he's moving into is still track oriented and look forward to his continued involvement with our sport.
