The 45th edition of the Golden Gala Pietro Mennea, part of the 2025 Wanda Diamond League, is set to light up Rome’s Stadio Olimpico on Friday, June 6. As the fifth stop on this year’s global circuit, the meet brings together an extraordinary cast: 11 Olympic champions, 15 Diamond League titleholders, and 62 medalists from the Olympics and World Championships. With Paris 2024 memories still fresh and the 2025 World Championships in Tokyo on the horizon, athletes are using the Golden Gala as both a proving ground and a stage to thrill the crowd.

The marquee event of the evening will be the women’s 5000 meters, where reigning Olympic and Diamond League champion Beatrice Chebet of Kenya will take on Ethiopia’s world record holder Gudaf Tsegay. Chebet, who scorched an 8:11 over 3000m in Rabat, has her sights set on breaking the 14-minute barrier-a feat that Tsegay narrowly missed last year with a 14:00.21 performance. With both women in exceptional form, this race could go down as one of the fastest 5000s in history.

On the men’s side, sprint fans will be watching Fred Kerley closely as the American Olympic silver medalist returns to Diamond League competition in the 100 meters. He’ll face a deep field featuring Kenya’s Ferdinand Omanyala and Jamaica’s Ackeem Blake, all capable of going under 10 seconds. Another crowd favorite will be Italy’s own Gianmarco Tamberi, the reigning Olympic champion in the high jump, who makes his 2025 debut on home soil. Tamberi will face a strong field that includes fellow Olympic champion Hamish Kerr and 2023 Golden Gala winner Woo Sang-hyeok.

Elsewhere, the men’s 110m hurdles features a showdown between world leader Cordell Tinch and U.S. Olympic silver medalist Daniel Roberts. In the men’s long jump, Italian teenager Mattia Furlani will square off against Olympic champion Miltiadis Tentoglou in a matchup of youth versus experience. The women’s 200m is also expected to be a thriller, with Marie-Josée Ta Lou-Smith leading a field that includes Americans Jenna Prandini and McKenzie Long.

Field events begin at 1:15 PM Eastern with the women’s pole vault and discus, while the main track program kicks off just after 3 PM with the women’s 400m hurdles. Other highlights include the men’s 1500m, women’s 1500m, men’s 400m, and men’s shot put. The men’s 100m and women’s 5000m anchor the heart of the program, promising fireworks late in the evening.

U.S. viewers can catch the action live on FloTrack and the FloSports app, while UK audiences can tune in on BBC Four and BBC iPlayer starting at 8 PM BST. With Olympic champions, rising stars, and world record chasers all converging in the Eternal City, the 2025 Golden Gala promises to deliver an unforgettable night of track and field excellence.
