Sean Fries Concludes Minnesota Prep Career With Record-Setting 14:50.6 Performance; Maddie Gullickson Wins Class 3A Individual Title, Leading No. 7 Wayzata Girls To Fourth Straight Team Title By Keenan Gray of DyeStat For a third consecutive year, the class 3A boys champion at the Minnesota state championships delivered a course-record performance. Following the acts of Robert Mechura at the 2023 and 2024 state meets, Minnetonka senior Sean Fries became the first Minnesota prep to break 15 minutes at the state meet on the 5-kilometer course at the Les Bolstad Golf Course on Saturday in Falcon Heights. Fries improved his runner-up finished last fall by 16 seconds, running 14 minutes, 50.6 seconds to lower Mechura’s course best of 15:03.7. Maddie Gullickson, in her final cross country race in Minnesota, won her first state individual title in 16:54.3 as part of Wayzata’s dominating team effort, including all five individual scorers finishing in the top 15. Wayzata's performance was sensational and is sure to move the team up in the national rankings. Charlie Loth and the St. Paul Como Park boys swept the individual and team titles in the class 2A boys race. Loth ran a personal best 15:31.1 to hold off Gabe Hallen of Orono by three seconds in the individual race, leading St. Paul Como Park defeating Perham 75-89 for the program’s first team title.
