EUGENE – Wilson (Long Beach) CA’s co-ed team title defense for a third consecutive year began with a strong start on day one of the Oregon Relays, with the Bruins tallying three wins on the boys side at Hayward Field on Friday.

Kaedyn Burroughs led off with a win in the boys 400 meters over Sherwood’s Andrew Waletich during the early-afternoon session, running in 47.98 seconds to win by almost a second.

During the high-performance window in the evening, both the Bruins’ 4x400 and sprint medley relay teams collected wins in their respective championship races.

The 4x400 team, featuring Ky’Zir Burroughs, JaeRon Harris, Charles Chatman and Kaedyn Burroughs, ran 3 minutes, 17.07 seconds to run away from the field by more than six seconds for the win.

The sprint medley team’s result was much closer as it held off Auburn Riverside WA’s team by a margin of 3:33.60 to 3:34.23.

Combined with the girls team, Long Beach Wilson leads the team race with 51 points after the first day, adding Loren Webster’s win in the girls long jump and two more wins in both the girls 4x400 and sprint medley relay races.

Aidan Wendring of Central OR clocked 5:59.02 to win the boys 2,000 steeplechase in a US#1 time, completing a strong comeback with a 69 second final lap.

Max Billett of Shorewood WA blazed through his final lap of the boys 2-mile in 58.8 seconds to win in a US#1 time of 8:59.55, breaking nine minutes for time in his career. In fact, he PR'd by more than 20 seconds.

Kellen Williams of Jesuit OR out kicked a pack of about eight runners in the final 200 meters to take the boys mile in 4:09.96, closing in 57 seconds.

Mateo Ganje of Glacier Peak WA won the boys 200 meters in 21.65.

Grant Valley of Jesuit OR ran a wind-aided time of 10.69 in the prelims and then came back to win the final with a wind-legal 10.80. Valley had missed the past two seasons with leg injuries.

Leroy Lozano Mejia of Hermiston OR ran a 20-second personal best in the freshman 2-mile, winning that race in 9:25.83.

Derek Olivo of McNary OR threw a US#7 mark of 193 feet, 3 inches to take the boys javelin competition.

Joseph Donnelly of Central Catholic used a third-round mark of 23-8.25 to win the boys long jump.

Joseph Miraya of Mountain View ID threw 60-1.25 in round two of the boys shot put for the win.

Chase Longley of R.E. Mountain of Langley, B.C., won the boys hammer with a mark of 178-9.
