Freshman From Texas Pulls Away From Illinois' Sundara Weber and Mia Sirois, Leading All Three To Go Under 10 Minutes For The First Time; Grant Bradley Runs All-Dates NCAA D2 No. 9 In Steeplechase Story and Photos by Keenan Gray of DyeStat CLEVELAND, Tenn. – Elin Latta, Sundara Weber and Mia Sirois pushed each other to three US top 10 times in the girls 3,200 meters Friday night to begin the two-day Music City Track Carnival from Ray Conn Sports Complex at Lee University. Latta (South Texas Heat Homeschool TX) locked up the win in a US#2 9 minutes, 56.33 seconds, pulling away from both Weber and Sirois the last three laps to go under 10 minutes for the first time. Weber (Sandwich IL) ran US#6 9:59.16 for second, out leaning Sirois (Barrington IL) in third in US#7 9:59.23. Both broke 10 minutes for the first time, too. Sophia Bendet (Universal City Randolph TX) finished fourth in 10:03.44, Lilly Beshears (Rogers AR) finished fifth in 10:03.57 and Abby Faith Cheeseman (The Webb TN) finished sixth in 10:04.41. Nathan Lee (Brunswick CT) finished his final 400 meters of the boys 3,200 in 60.06 seconds, earning the win in 8:52.67 over Jack Bertram (North Allegheny PA), finishing second in 8:54.12. Grant Bradley, who completed his collegiate career at Northwest Missouri State with a second-place finish in the men’s steeplechase at the NCAA Division II Championships last weekend, ran an NCAA Division II all-dates No. 9 time of 8:29.68 to win the Ponce Law men’s steeplechase. Ana Cristina Naravaez Ramirez, a four-time Mexican national champion, ran a second off her personal best in the 3,000 steeplechase, winning the Ponce Law women’s race in 10:22.43. Oluwatosin Awoleye (South Cobb GA) held off Claire Stegall (Nolensville TN) in the New Balance girls 800 by a margin of 2:04.57 to 2:05.28. Stegall moves to US#7. Luke Bone (Austin TX) led wire-to-wire in the New Balance boys 800, winning in 1:50.48. Andrew Carlton (Morgantown WV) lowered his season’s best in the 2,000 steeplechase to 6:13.03, winning by almost a minute in a solo effort. Caroline Irvin (West Central TN) won the girls 2,000 steeplechase in a US#8 6:55.30, knocking off 26 seconds from her previous best of 7:21.28. Colin Eckerman, a freshman at Furman and former Webb School TN standout, won the men’s mile in 4:00.91. Moroccan Mohammed Jouhari clocked 13:56.23 to win the men’s 5,000. American Katelyn Mitchem won the women’s 5,000 in 16:21.41. In the only sprinting event of the day, Javonte’ Harding and Piper Jones completed an American sweep in the 200, with Harding winning the men’s race in 20.41 and Jones in the women’s race in 23.18.
