Arnaud Sioho To Help Push South Portland To Class A Title; Emerson Flaker Sweeps Sprints For Scarborough

South Portland’s star hurdler/jumper put on a show Saturday at the Class A Maine State Track and Field Championships. 

Arnaud Sioho finished with four gold medals to lead South Portland to the boys team title, the program's first since 2002, at Thornton Academy in Saco, Maine. 

Sioho won the 110-meter hurdles (14.70), 300 hurdles (38.67), long jump (23-2.25) and the triple jump (47-2). His distances in the jumps were both class records. 

In the 100 dash, Marshwood’s Andre Clark set a class record, clocking 10.59. 

In girls action, Scarborough’s Emerson Flaker guided her team to a state title, excelling in the sprints. The senior won the 100 (12.15), 200 (26.14) and 400 (57.96).  Flaker also ran on the winning 4x400 relay. 

In Class B action, the Greely High girls won the 4x400 in 4:13.69 to secure the team championship with 93 points. Ninth grader Victoria Zandan led Greely with wins in the long jump and 300 hurdles, and a runner-up second in the triple jump.

In Class B, Zoe Carroll of York set a facility record in the 800 (2:16.25).

The Greely boys made it a program sweep, winning the state title. 

In the distance events, senior Carter Libby of Gray New Gloucester won the 800, 1,600 and was third in the 3,200. 

All-American distance runner Ruth White of Orono ended her final Maine state championships in style, guiding her team to a back-to-back Class C team championship. Orono scored 122 points to beat North Yarmouth Academy/Main Coast Waldorf (116 points). 

White, who originally signed to run with Boise State, recently announced she will attend the University of New Hampshire this fall. She ran on the winning 4x800 relay and finished in second place in the 1,600 and 3,200 races. Junior Teanne Ewings of Houlton won the 1,600 (4:58.65) and 3,200 (10:33.65), both times were class records. 

North Yarmouth Academy’s Sarah Moore dominated the Class C girls action, as she won the high jump, long jump and triple jump, and ran on the first-place 4x100 (52.23)

The Winslow boys scored 89 points to win the Class C title. Orono was second with 85 points. Winslow was led by senior Joey Richards’ wins in the 100 (11.08), 200 (22.48) and 400 (50.38). In the 100 prelims he ran a class record time of 10.96, breaking a 15-year-old record. He also won the long jump title, soaring 22-00.50.

Kaleb Colton of Sumner Memorial ran a class record time in the 800 (1:56.07)

Class A: South Portland boys 79.50 points; Scarborough girls 101 points - RESULTS

Class B: Greely boys 104 points; Greely girls 93 points - RESULTS

Class C: Winslow boys 89 points; Orono girls 122 points - RESULTS
