Q: How did you get your start in track and field and/or cross country?
A: Started in sixth grade. Hadn’t hit my growth spurt yet so everyone else was bigger, faster, and stronger. I didn’t have it in me to be a distance runner. So when coach asked were there any volunteers for jumping, I jumped at the opportunity
Q: Your parents athletic background. Did they play any sports-where(HS, College, Pro), what position, when, any awards? Please include names
A: My mom was a triple jumper in high school. My uncle was also a track athlete at Virginia Tech
Q: Outside interests- your hobbies, talents(musical, chess, anything), volunteering- what do you do in your free time?
A: I like playing basketball or playing games like 2k in my free time
Q: Pre- and post- race rituals. Any superstitions?
A: I like doing small prayers before and after each jump
Q: How do you deal with setbacks and triumphs?
A: With a setback I think about what a want for the future and focus on how to get to that point rather than being down. With triumphs I’ll dwell in it a little more but stay focused on getting better
Q: Where do you see yourself in five years?
A: In five years I see myself as one the best professional jumpers in the world.
Q: What words would you have for your sixth grade self?
A: Basketball cool and all but you not going to the nba.
Q: Who is your favorite track and field athlete and why? How about other sports-who is your favorite athlete and why?
A: My favorite track and field athlete is Pedro Prichardo. He has a unique triple jump style. Outside of track my favorite athlete is Julio jones. I was born in Atlanta and he made me want to play wide receiver in the nfl.
Q: Favorite hype song, if any, before your competition
A: I don’t listen to music before competitions a lot but if I do it’s probably any youngboy song
Q: Many athletes are quoted as saying " trust the process". What does that mean to you?
A: To me this means that everyday isn’t going to be perfect but my time is coming.
Q: Favorite and not favorite high school subject and why?
A: Government. Learning about different laws that I didn’t know before is cool. Math has to be my least favorite because I feel like I don’t use half the stuff we learn about now.
Q: Favorite musical artist and why? What is your favorite song by that artist?
A: Youngboy. The songs have a lot of energy. War
Q: Favorite pre- and post- meal?
A: My meal before a competition would just be some fruit and a bagel. After the meet my meal of choice would be oxtails.
Q: What do you see your legacy being-in and outside the track world?
A: My legacy in track would be being remembered as one of the best all around jumpers. Outside the the track I would be remembered as someone who helped people in some way.
Q: If you could meet anyone dead or alive, who would it be and why?
A: Jonathan Edward’s. He is the world record holder. In the triple jump. I would ask for some advice.
