The Millrose Games received not one, but two major announcements with the addition of World Champion title holders Jesse Williams and Brittney Reese to the 105th Millrose Games at The Armory. "The tradition of excellence in the field events is sure to continue with the two best athletes in the world competing in the Millrose Games," Meet Director Ray Flynn said about Williams and Reese. "I am delighted to announce Jesse and Brittney to our meet. With the addition of these two London Olympic Games' favorites, our field events will really be something special this year." Williams, 27 of Eugene, Ore., is the reigning high jump gold medal winner in the World Outdoor Championships and is a major contender to win the gold in the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. In September in Daegu, South Korea, Williams cleared 7 feet, 9 1/4 inches to become the first U.S. high jumper to win gold at the World Championships since Charles Austin in 1991. He recently won USA Track and Field's Jesse Owens Award as the sport's top male athlete. The two-time USA Outdoor champion competed in the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China. Reese, 25 of Gulfport, Miss., is a two-time long jump winner in the World Outdoor Championships (2011, 2009) and captured the 2010 World Indoor Championships. In August, she successfully defended her title in the World Championships in Daegu when she recorded a mark of 22 feet, 4 1/2 inches to win the gold. A two-time NCAA champion for the University of Mississippi and five-time USA champ, Reese is hoping to use the Millrose Games as a major hurdle en route to winning the gold medal in the 2012 Summer Olympics. Following the Millrose Games, Reese will go to the 2012 World Indoor Track & Field Championships scheduled for March in Istanbul, Turkey, to defend her World Indoor title. She was the USA's 2008 Olympic Trials champion (22-9 3/4). The Millrose Games will be Saturday, February, 11, 2012 at its new location — the New Balance Track & Field Center at the Armory. The country's top men's and women's track & field athletes along with the finest college and high school student-athletes will showcase their talents on the "world's fastest indoor track." Williams and Reese join 2008 Olympic Gold medalist Allyson Felix and World Champion & 2008 USA Olympian Jennifer Simpson as confirmed participants in the nation's premier indoor track & field event. Felix will compete in the women's 60m dash and Simpson will participate in the Millrose Games' first New York Road Runners' Wanamaker Metric Mile for Women.
