The famed Motor City Track Club, founded in 1965 and still going strong as ever, has a new destination in 2022: Philadelphia.

After a successful run at New Balance Nationals Indoor in March, with wins in the Sprint Medley Relay and Shuttle Hurdles Relay, the girls from Oak Park High in Michigan are ready to chase national titles again at Franklin Field, June 16-19 at New Balance Nationals Outdoor.

"The girls had an amazing experience in New York City in March," Motor City TC (and Oak Park) coach Brandon Jiles said. "We've wanted to go go Penn Relays for a long time, but going to Philly and getting to run at the famous Franklin Field is something the kids will never forget."

First, Oak Park has the Michigan state track and field championships this weekend in Rockford, Mich. The Knights are the defending Michigan D1 Lower Peninsula state champions.

"First, we have to get to (nationals) healthy," Jiles said. "Our focus is on state."

The lineup that won the Sprint Medley Relay title indoors, Drelin Mapp, Morgan Roundtree, Nonah Waldron and Kylee King, remains intact.

King ran 2:12.23 this week in the 800 meters as she tunes up for the state meet.

Waldron, the NBNI champion in the 60-meter hurdles and a member of both winning relays, has a season's best time of 13.88 in the 100-meter hurdles.

Roundtree broke the all-time Michigan record in the 300-meter hurdles on Tuesday by running 42.17.

Mapp has run 14.39 in the 100 hurdles this spring and is a key member of the 4x200 lineup at state and also a qualifier in the long jump.

After the dust settles on the state meet, Motor City will rev up for the post-season and prepare for New Balance Nationals Outdoor.

"This year, we're going to Philly," Jiles said. "We get to go to another big city and compete and do it in a place with a lot of history."
