WATCH THE ASICS SOUND INVITE LIVE SATURDAY ON RUNNERSPACE+ | LIVE RESULTS Jameson Pifer Jr. will be going after the high school 2,000 meters record, and Caden Leonard and Brian Burns are looking to join the sub-4-minute mile club on Saturday at JDL Fast Track. Pifer Jr. nearly became the 31st high school athlete to break four minutes in the mile on Feb. 7 when he ran 4 minutes, 0.61 seconds at Camel City Distance. That race has prepared him to go after Nico Young's record of 5:17.89 from Feb. 2020. Racing alongside Pifer Jr. are Owen Munn, Brooks Barbee, Dallas Reeves, Reynolds Young, Malachi Burnett, Jackson Tuck and Riley Comstock. Race is scheduled for 4:22 p.m. ET. The wave lights are assigned to go through 1,600 in 4:08 and then finish at 5:10. Leonard and Burns are both entered in the third section of professional men's mile, racing sub-4 milers Ryan Adams, Tanner Maier, Clay Pender, Caleb Easton, Shane Streich, Bryce Gilmore and Hibiki Obara. Burns ran a US#3 4:04.17 at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix during the boys international mile. Leonard achieved a personal best of 4:04.02 at the BU Valentine Invitational last indoor season. The wave lights are set to 1:58 through 800 and 3:56 at the end, which would put Burns and Leonard under four to become the 31st and 32nd high schoolers to break the barrier. The race is scheduled for 4:45 p.m. ET. More news |
