In honor of MySportsResults 25 years of covering Connecticut high school track and field and cross country, we will be taking a look back at 25 of the best athletes over the past quarter of a century during each season. Here are some of the top girls who have made an impact on our sport since the winter of 2000, Part 2 to follow!

Nicole Toney, Conard, Class of 2000

While Nicole Toney is probably more remembered because she still owns the CT indoor triple jump record for going on a quarter of a century, she also swept all her championships events in the 55m hurdles and long jump. Her best jump off 18-10.5 not only broke the State Open record, her distance is still the 10th best performance of all time in CT. On the same day, she also ran 8.24 in the hurdles, which is also still ranked 10th all time. She was New England champion in both events and her state record triple jump distance of 40-4.0 earned her a fourth place medal at the National Scholastic Indoor Championship. She earned the gold medal in the pentathlon with 3,411 points at the New Balance Scholastic Indoor Track and Field Championships.

Monica Hargrove, Hillhouse, Class of 2000

You know you are special when they name a meet after you. In 2015, Amity hosted the Monica Hargrove Freshman & Sophomore Invitational which drew about a dozen teams. A quarter century ago,Hargrove was the State Open champion in the no-longer raced 500m and the 300m. She held the state record in the indoor 400m for 14 years with a time of 56.39 and earned All American honors in the 400m and sprint medley relay.

Nicole Kadyszewski, Norwich Free Academy, Class of 2001

A versatile athlete who qualified for New Englands in both the high jump and hurdles. Nicole Kadyszewski was 2nd in the State Open her junior year but came back the next week to jump a PR of 5-8 and win New Englands. Her senior year she won the Open high jump and earned another medal at New Englands. She was tied for the 2nd best leap in state history when she graduated and is still tied for #3 CT all time.

Meghan Owen, Killingly, Class of 2003

Meghan Owen was the first girl to break five minutes for the mile from CT in over two decades when she took 2nd at Nationals her senior year with a time of 4:51.35. She won the Open 1000m and 1600m two straight years and New Englands 1600m in her senior year, after taking the runner-up spot her junior year. Owens is still top 10 in the 1000m (2:53.19), broke the state record in the 1600m 4:53.50, which is currently #4 and her mile time is still #6 all time in the mile, 20 years later.

Shanea and Shantea Calhoun, Wilbur Cross, Class of 2004

Shanea and Shantea Calhoun competed on the basketball court during the winter their first three years at Wilbur Cross. Their senior year, the twins decided to concentrate on track. With only one letter separating their names, their results are merged in Athletic.net, but suffice to say, they were both fast. They went 1-2 in the 2004 State Open 55m and 300m races and both contributed to a 4x200 relay championship in a record of 1:46.02. Shantea won the 55m as both dipped under the State Open meet record and Shanea won the 300m. The pair also went 1-3 at New Englands in both sprinting events and were part of the winning 4x200m team in 2004.

Tynisha McMillan, Stamford, Class of 2006

Tynisha McMillan from Stamford was undefeated her senior year except for her 3rd place finish at the National Scholastic Indoor Championships. She holds the current all time and State Open record of 46-11.75 in the shot put and swept the Open champion and All New England titles for two consecutive years.

Teyanna Green, Danbury, Class of 2010

In the last part of the first decade of the 2000s, Danbury was producing some very talented sprinters who were combined into stellar relays. Teyanna Green was probably the best of that talented group. Her senior year she became the first CT girl to break 7 seconds for the 55m when she ran 6.98 in the prelims at FCIACs. She went on to win the State Open and New England 55m and 300m titles. She and her sister Charisma were part of three years of very successful relays and broke the CT record with their time of 1:41.36 in 2008.

Rachel Aliotta, Cheshire, Class of 2010

For two years there wasn’t any girl from CT who could toss the shot farther than Rachel Aliotta. She won two straight State Open and New England titles and was 4th at Nike Indoor Nationals. Even in her sophomore year, she finished 2nd at the Open. Her best of 44-3 from Nationals is still the 6th best throw in state history.

Lindsay Crevoiserat, Glastonbury, Class of  2011

Her senior year, Crevoiserat pulled off a tremendous triple winning the State Open 1000m, 1600m and 3200m races to lead Glastonbury to their first team title. After she took 2nd at New Englands in the 2-miles she claimed the Nike Indoor Nationals 5000m title in a state record time of 16:51.88. At New Englands her junior year, Crevoiserat not only won the New England 2-mile title, she set the CT and meet records finishing in 10:30.55. She also became the second girl from the state to break 4:50 in the mile at the Millrose Games, broke the 1000m CT record (2:52.44) and ran 9:41.99 to win the Yale Invitation, a time only the great Ceci Hopp has run faster.
