The boys defended their title and scored 131 points with Coginchaug getting the runner-up trophy with 105.5 points and Haddam-Killingworth scoring 78. The Panthers only win came from Nassyr Andrade who took the 55m in a time of 6.63. But he also contributed a pair of runner-up finishes in the 600m (1:29.19) and 300m (35.69). The senior was prevented from taking home the triple by his rival Charles Dalles of Coginchaug who claimed the 300m (35.69) lowering his previous meet record of 35.95. He returned to win the 600m title in 1:27.34. He nearly claimed a third title in the 55m hurdles. He had the fastest time in the prelims, but with less than 20 minutes rest from the 600m settled for 3rd with a time of 8.34. Twin brothers Breckin and Hayden Burke have been pushing each other since they were little kids and finished 1-2 in both the 1600m and 3200m distance events. Girls Meet Highlights The Cromwell girls moved up from third last year scoring 138 points with Haddam-Killingworth at 83 and East Hampton finishing off with 71 points. The Panthers earned their first conference title using a little more firepower up front, winning five of the 15 events. The 1600m state record holder Chase Gilbert of Lyme Old Lyme won the 1000m easily 2:58.92, choosing to only run the 1000m in preparation for her 1m effort at the Millrose Games 1Mile today. That paved the way for Taylor Mooney to rack up points for the Panthers. She took 2nd to Gilbert in the 1000m with a PR of 3:08.72 but then returned to take the 1600m (5:41.44) and 3200m (12:19.80). Mooney scored 28 points by herself which gave her the overall Shoreline MVP. Cromwell displayed a total team effort scoring in 12 of the 15 events with multiple scorers in five of the 11 individual ones. The Panthers also took home gold in the SMR, running 4:49.40, 4x200m, finishing in 1:55.12 and Rory Monahan in the shot put with a toss of 29-10.5. Monahan, in an amazing display of versatility, not only set a PR to win the shot put was also a member of the 2nd place 4x800m relay and earned two points in the 3200m with a 7th place finish. Della Krete Cacase helped Haddam-Killingworth keep it close, scoring in three events. She won the high jump at 4-10 and then set PRs in the 55m hurdles (9.58) to take 2nd and the long jump (14-6.50) finishing in 4th place. It’s not too early to think about your plans for summer training that could include attending the Foss Running Camp!
