Records Fall as Innovation Boys & HMTA Girls Score Team Titles in GHC ITF Championships

In a little more than a decade of indoor track and field competition the Capitol Region Athletic League has seen growth in member schools from four to over a dozen as well as a name change to the Greater Hartford Conference. The 2026 GHC Indoor Track and Field Championships, held Wednesday night at the Floyd Little Athletic Center in New Haven, saw meet records broken and ended with the Innovation boys and Hartford Magnet Trinity Academy girls earning the top team honors.

Boys Championship Highlights

The Innovation boys of New Britain who edged International of Bloomfield by a scant 5 point margin of 87 to 82 for their first title since their repeat wins in 2018 and 2019. 

The Ravens were led by victories in the 4x800m relay with their season best of 9:44.87 and Immanuel Kearnery with a meet record in the 1600m (4:53.35) and then returning to take the 3200m title. 

International kept pace with winning efforts of their own that included Christopher Pratt in his PR of 8.20 in the 55m hurdles as well as the high jump as he cleared his PR and meet record of 6-4. The largest chunk of points came in the relays as they swept 3 of the 4 that started with a meet record and season best of 1:35.29 in the 4x200m from the squad of Kestrel Roberts, Tyler White Jayden Lawrence, and Damahri Rose

The Dragon’s relay success continued with another meet record in the 1600m SMR as Joshua Andrews, Jayden Lawrence, Ayden Lopez, and Caleb Chin combined for a time of 3:59.86.

In the final 4x400m relay, more Dragon success with a third meet record by Kestrel Roberts, Caleb Chin, Ayden Lopez, and Christopher Pratt as they combined for a finish time of 3:44.91.

The meet record party was shared by Hartford Public’s Hanief Jones as reset records in two events; the 55m in 6.50 and the 300m in 36.36.

Girls Championship Highlights

The title train kept rolling for the Hartford Magnet Trinity Academy girls team as they took home their fourth consecutive title with 97 points to outscore runner-up University with 70 points.

The Phoenix relied heavily on their talented junior sprinter Tiriyah Walker who scored wins in the 300m (44.23) and as part of their winning 4x200m relay with their season best of 1:52.73. 

Harmony Holmes reset the meet record in the shot put with her toss of 36-00 that also moved her up to a CT#10 this season. 

Another busy winner was Olivia Reyes who scored a win in the high jump, placed 6th in the long jump and was also a part of their 4x200m team that included Walker, Trocari Griffith-McCalop and Avery Dumas

Their 4x800m quartet of Olivia Soares, Gabriella Mera, Nariema White, and Jaime Juarez sped to the meet record of 12:17.09.

University gave a good effort to keep it close as they assembled important points in the distance events led by double winner Natania Dhanagar in the 1600m and 3200m as well as a win in the 1000m by Isabella Sorvillo in her PR of 3:47.86

The only other meet record came in the 55m finals as senior Tania Turner of Classical Magnet sped to her PR of 7.30 that moved her up to a CT#7 this season.
