Fan Guide to 2026 CIAC State Open Indoor Track and Field ChampionshipsPublished by
By Ron Knapp, Owner - Editor After Sunday’s posting of the State Open qualifiers from the exciting class championships athletes, coaches and fans eagerly anticipate the start of the CIAC State Open Indoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday, February 21st that starts at 11:30am for field events and 12:00pm for track events in the Floyd Little Athletic Facility in Hillhouse HS in New Haven. Spectator Fees for State Open Meet: SPECTATORS ARE INVITED to attend these meets. Tickets are ONLY available online at: https://gofan.co/app/school/CIAC Charges for Class and State Open Championships will be: $5.00 – Student and $10.00 – Adults Safety is an emphasis at all CIAC events. Many events are potentially dangerous if proper precautions are not observed. Spectators may not be on the track or field and must remain in the assigned spectator areas.
If you are not able to attend in person then you can view the any of the championship meets on a fee basis at the NFHS Network with Tom Felice and Marty Ogden on the call at https://www.nfhsnetwork.com/associations/ciac/track-and-field CIAC State Open Indoor T&F Championships Track Events: (Order is Boys then Girls unless noted otherwise) 4x200m Relay 4x800m Relay 55m Hurdles – Prelim 55m Dash – Prelim 1000m Run 600m Run 55m Hurdles – Finals (Girls then Boys) 55m Dash – Finals (Girls then Boys) 1600m Run 1600m Sprint Medley (1-1-2-4 laps) (3-turn stagger) 300m Dash 3200m Run 4x400m Relay Field Events: Pole vault, shot put, long jump and high jump will be started concurrently with running events. The order is as follows: High Jump (Girls then boys) Five alive protocol Long Jump (Boys then girls) Shot Put (Boys then girls) Pole Vault (Girls then boys) Five alive protocol Team and Event Awards Teams compete for the Championship and runner-up trophies that will be awarded at each meet based on event scoring of 10-8-6-4-2-1. Medals will be awarded for the first six (6) places in all events. Qualifying for the New England Championships Athletes will also compete for the opportunity to qualify for the New England Championships on Saturday, February 28th at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston, MA. The top six (6) in all events at the CIAC Open Championship qualify for the New England Championships Meet with the exception of the Pole Vault and the Sprint Medley, which are not contested. Coaches may also enter athletes who did not finish in the top six at the State Open. The New England Meet Director will approve the top six performances that have been entered in each event, so alternates may be eligible. Coaches must use AthleticNet to enter their qualified athletes to compete by the 6PM on Monday, February 23, 2026 deadline listed in the New England Indoor Track Championship information packet at http://cnesspa.ezstream.com . The athlete's school will then receive an invoice to pay the entry fee and the athlete will officially be entered in the meet. If a team calendar in Athletic.net doesn’t yet have the [CT Entries] New England Track & Field Championship meet listed then coaches can use the Add A Meet link to include the meet on their calendar after the State Open meet to ensure timely registration of their athletes.
