2016 Estero DDD Sommer XC Invitational Preview
By Robert ‘Twangster’ Brown for DyeStatFL
The XC course at Estero Community Park in Estero, FL is much like it’s designer, the late Estero Coach Jeff Sommer; tough, demanding and true to the spirit of cross-country. Yet, if you put in the work and have the Dedication, Discipline and Desire you will be rewarded with a top finish and the satisfaction of running one of the hardest 5k XC courses in the state.
This Saturday the 4th annual DDD Sommer Invite will go off with a record number of harriers seeking to tame the untamable. The Girls Varsity will start the carnage at 7:30am with the Boys Varsity toeing the line at 8:10am. The JV contests will follow.

Girls:
Last year CSN Senior and TCU commit Lindsay Tomaini was victorious in the Girls Varsity tilt over Estero Senior and Alabama commit Daley Cline. The Girls of St. Brendan edged the home team from Estero for the team crown. This year the top returner is Charlotte Tarpon Sophomore Isabella Coogan who finished 4th last year and started her 2016 season with a win at the Riverdale Caloosahatchee Invite last week. St. Brendan’s is not in attendance this year leaving the title up for grabs between Fort Myers, Naples, Pine Crest, Charlotte and host Estero.

Boys:
Joshua Collins, Belen Jesuit won last years Boys Varsity race as a Sophomore over Charlotte Senior and Florida Gator commit Marshall Dillon. The Wolverines of Belen destroyed the Boys team competition winning by 60 points over 2A LaBelle. Collins and his Wolverine buddies are back again this year looking to extend their DDD streak to 4 team and individual titles but host school Estero’s Senior Arye Beck my have something to say about that.

Awesome.
The Course will be a little Muddy. There will be Sand, and Hay Bales to jump over. We have had a little Rain just like Coach Sommer ordered. Coach would call me the night before the race and ask me if it was raining in Estero...Well he had God send us some Rain. |
