Sore Achilles will keep Maton out of Pre
By Doug Binder, DyeStat Editor
Matthew Maton said Wednesday afternoon that he will pull out of the Prefontaine Classic's high school mile race because of an Achilles tendon that remains sore after several days of resting it.
Maton, who became the sixth high school runner to run a mile under four minutes, has been running independently of Summit High School in Bend, Ore. for more than a month. He plans to attend this week's Oregon high school championships in Eugene to cheer for his classmates and friends.
And he is hopeful of returning to racing as soon as he is able.
"I really want to make sure I'm in top shape for (U.S.) Juniors to make one last junior team," Maton said.
The U.S. Junior Championships are June 25-28 in Eugene. More news |
