Here are summaries of the first-round meets:

WEST REGIONAL

Chandler AZ 104, Newton KS 23

The Kansas 5A State champions relied on sophomore Kalli Anderson in the sprints and senior Brooke Lachenmayer in the shot put, but the Railroaders didn’t have the depth to keep pace with the Arizona Division 1 champions, who swept seven events and won both relays. Chandler reached last year's national final and posted the highest first-round score of any team.

Lee’s Summit West MO 76, Roosevelt CA 60

Despite losing both relays against one of the California’s deepest teams, featuring hurdler Breanna Bernard-Joseph, the Missouri Class 5 champions relied on their strength in the distance events and the jumps to rally for victory. Lee’s Summit West boasts one of the nation’s top throwers in junior Makayla Kelby and rising high jumper in sophomore Jessica Haney.

Grandview CO 70.5, Mountain View ID 64.5

One of the most anticipated matchups in the first round features Grandview senior Brie Oakley against Mountain View freshman Lexy Halladay in the distance events. In a back-and-forth showdown, a victory in the 4x400 relay helped the Colorado 5A state winners hold off Idaho’s 5A champions.

McKinney North TX 79, Albertville-St. Michael MN 57

Freshman distance standout London Culbreath, along with the relays, were instrumental in the Bulldogs winning the Texas 5A state title and she led the way again against the Minnesota Class AA champions, who received strong performances from jumpers Lexie Nelson, Anna Keefer and Sophia Weston.

Santa Margarita CA 81, Davis UT 55

The Eagles set the all-time scoring record in California Southern Section Division 3 and relied on that depth to overcome being swept by the Utah 5A state champions in the shot put, 1,600 and 3,200 to win 12 of the remaining 13 events. Aubrey Argyle and Mary Page helped Davis, but Elizabeth Weeks came through with valuable points in the jumps for Santa Margarita.

Summit OR 81.33, Tahoma WA 54.67

The Oregon 5A state champions overcame struggles against the Washington 4A winners in the sprints – led by Aliya Wilson – and field events, but Summit dominated the remaining track events, with Olivia Brooks, Camille Weaver and Quin Fraley sparking the Storm.

Las Vegas Centennial NV 88, Edmond Memorial OK 48

The Bulldogs set the Division 4A scoring record to capture their seventh consecutive state title and demonstrated their versatility by sweeping seven events, led by seniors Talie Bonds and Karina Haymore. Morganne Mukes, Jaden Bassett and Erin Talbott all secured victories for the Oklahoma 6A champions.

DeSoto TX 76, Waukee IA 42

It was contrast of DeSoto’s speed and prowess in the jumps against Waukee’s strength in the distances, but the Texas 6A champions relied on the experience of Rosaline Effiong, Antoinette Bradley and Kynnedy Brown to prevail against the Iowa 4A winners, who received impressive efforts from Logan Akason and Lily Campbell.

EAST REGIONAL

Warren Central IN 71.5, Dunlap IL 60.5

The Illinois 2A champions remained within striking distance behind the efforts of jumper Aanise Sajna and distance runners Jena Brooks and Franny Verville, but Indiana powerhouse Warren Central won both relays and dominated the hurdles, led by Kayland Jackson, Kennedy Batts and K’ja Talley.

Union Catholic NJ 89.5, Bloomfield CT 46.5

The Connecticut state open champions accumulated 75 percent of their points in the field events, led by thrower Brittany Jones and jumper Adia Cavalier, but the New Jersey Non-Public A winners relied on more than just Sydney McLaughlin to gain an edge on the track, with strong supporting efforts from Amaya Chadwick, Leena Morant and Jerika Luefrano.

Withrow OH 68, Ann Arbor Pioneer MI 59

Sweeping both relays were significant results for the Ohio Division 1 champions, who received impressive efforts from Diaka Kante and Doneasha Brewer to hold off the Michigan Division 1 winners, who swept all the distance events, led by Alice Hill and Anne Forsyth.

Miami Northwestern FL 97, Hoover AL 39

Last year’s dual-meet national champions demonstrated their strength from the outset against the Alabama 7A state champions, who relied on Caitlyn Little and Genesis Jones, but couldn’t match the depth of the Florida 3A winners. Freshman Markalah Hart is a big addition for the Bulls, who continued to impress in the field events with Taranique Alexander, Kaylah Clark and Chanel Dawson.

Western Branch VA 63.5, Miami Southridge FL 63.5 (Western Branch wins 4x800 tiebreaker)

The best first-round matchup saw Western Branch fall behind in the sprints, rally with timely efforts in the hurdles and distances, only to have Florida 4A winners Miami Southridge rely on Symone Mason to help pull even with a dramatic 4x400 victory to tie the score. The Virginia 6A champions ultimately won a 4x800 tiebreaker with Adriana Shockley, Devonya Brown, Shardonnay Nichols and Martina Smalls.

Westlake GA 92, Whitehaven TN 34

Kennedy Simon was the catalyst for an impressive showing by the Georgia 7A state champions, who won both relays and swept five additional events. Kiara Rhodes was an outstanding all-around contributor for Whitehaven, the Tennessee 3A winners.

Shenendehowa NY 78.5, North Penn PA 57.5

Led by one of the country’s most talented throwers Jill Shippee, along with distance runner Hannah Reale, the New York state champions emerged victorious against Pennsylvania’s Class AAA winners. Freshman hurdler Anis Williams and a pair of strong relays helped North Penn remain within striking distance, despite being swept in four events.

Bullis MD 66, Hillside NC 52

One of the most impressive sprint and relay corps in the country, including Nia Frederick, Lauryn Harris, Shaniya HallMasai Russell, Ashley Seymour, Alexis Postell and Leah Phillips, helped the ISL/MAC winners build momentum, despite the North Carolina 4A state champions receiving impressive performances from freshman Alysia Johnson and junior Kayla Beasley.
