Heavy Equipment Begins To Rip Down East Grandstand By Doug Binder, DyeStat Editor While the track and field community turns its attention to the USATF Outdoor Championships this weekend, heavy equipment at Hayward Field began ripping apart the East Grandstand on Thursday in Eugene, Ore., one of the most emotionally charged aspects of the stadium's reconstruction. Video from the Eugene Register-Guard shows the steel arms of earth movers stretched up to peel the roof off the East Grandstand and knock the structure to the ground. For track fans who have long loved spectating in the 99-year-old stadium at the University of Oregon, it's a jarring image, but one that has been awaited for months. More news |
