National High School Boys Team Rankings - 11/7Published by
Top Five Teams Remain Steady Entering November By Paul Schmitz of DyeStat The top five teams in the country stand pat from the last rankings with Great Oak CA and Newbury Park CA leading the way. Both teams enter into the training season in California with Southern Section meets approaching. Great Oak is coming off another dominant victory at an elite meet with its win at Mt. SAC on Oct. 26, followed by impressive performances Nov. 1 at the Apache Invitational and Wednesday at the Southwestern League finals. Corner Canyon UT maintains its No. 3 position after scoring a mere 22 points at the deep and difficult Utah state meet. Corner Canyon placed five runners in the top 10 and showed the country that California teams going 1-2 at NXN is far from a certainty. Fourth-ranked Loudoun Valley VA has been idle as of late and is expected to cruise to a Virginia state championship and an NXR Southeast title in the coming weeks. Expect the two-time defending national champions to once again save their best race of the year for NXN and make this a four-team race for the title. The next tier consists of only two teams and is headed up by Colorado 5A champion Dakota Ridge, which was led by Connor Ohlson, who placed second to course record-breaker Cole Sprout. Dakota Ridge can run with any of the big four with their top three but have a separation at 4-5 that keeps the Eagles longshots to displace one of the top teams. La Salle Academy continued its fantastic season with a state title in Rhode Island. National caliber Bishop Hendricken broke up the La Salle Academy pack as Luke Henseler and Evan Reynolds placed first and third in the race, but the depth of the No. 6 team in the nation won out. La Salle placed six runners in the top 10 and defeated Bishop Hendricken 26-65. The next tier of teams, starting with No. 7 St. Charles East IL are nearly interchangeable down to No. 14 Southlake Carroll TX. This tier includes three teams from Illinois, St. Charles East, York and Wheaton Warrenville South. With Sandburg IL not far behind at No. 16, the Midwest region is one of the favorites to secure an NXN at-large bid. Fort Wayne Concordia Lutheran IN, St. Xavier OH and Brighton MI all won state titles this weekend and have a chance to compete, although the top teams in Illinois will be the favorites heading into the NXR Midwest on Nov. 16. In Minnesota, Mounds View edged Eden Prairie 86 to 87 for the large class state title and those two teams are slight favorites heading into the Heartland Regional this coming Sunday. Preseason Heartland No. 2 Middleton WI and No. 3 Dowling Catholic IA both captured state titles and are going to make things interesting in South Dakota. Top 30 (Previous) 12 (15). Christian Brothers Academy NJ 14 (14). Wheaton Warrenville-South IL More news
